This year, over on our Facebook page, we held a few end of the year polls to see what your favorites of 2012 were. Although we didn’t have too many categories this year, there were some big winners! So, without further ado:
What was the Best Comic Book Related Movie of 2012:
Avengers
Over 60% of our participants agreed that this 2012 summer blockbuster, directed by comic and television writer Joss Whedon, beat out competitors like the Dark Knight Rises and the Amazing Spider-man. And some might say it’s no surprise it won, considering it broke numerous records, including highest opening weekend, eventually becoming the third highest-grossing film of all time. Fun fact, the Avenger with the most amount of screen time in the film was Captain America, with 41 seconds more than Iron Man, at 37:42; the Avenger with the least amount of screen time was Hawkeye, clocking in at 12:44.
Best Comic Book Themed Movie of All Time:
Watchmen
Winning over Unbreakable by just one vote, this 2009 adaptation of Alan Moore’s standalone comic initially drew a lot of attention as it, like most things spinning off from Moore’s work, did not get his blessing. However, that didn’t stop the movie from winning this award! Fun fact, the “Ultimate Cut” of the film boasted a run time of a whopping 215 minutes.
Best RPG Product for 2012:
Capes, Cowls, and Villains Foul
This indie RPG, published by Spectrum Games, could have been considered the underdog, competing with bigger name products like the Marvel Heroic RPG and supplements from both Pathfinder and D&D, but it beat its competition with over 50% of the votes. Fast paced and fun, this superhero-themed roleplaying game that celebrates the little-used d12 will be coming soon to Modern Myths INC!
Best Deck Building Game of 2012:
DC Comics, Ascension, and Classic Trek
Perhaps the most surprising result of the poll was this three-way tie between deck building games! Each game brings it’s own setting and flavor, so whether you love superheroes, spaceships, or fantasy fights, you know you’ll be getting a good game!
And those were the 2012 Mythie Awards! Who were you rooting for? And what categories would you like to see next year? Leave us a comment and let us know what you think!
